After sparking speculation of a possible political debut with a cryptic tweet on Wednesday, BCCI Chairman Sourav Ganguly sought to dispel the rumors and clarify his next move.
After a few hours of keeping people guessing, Ganguly himself made it clear Wednesday night that it wasn’t politics, but an educational app that would be his new venture.
The former India captain also clarified that the new venture will not affect his existing innings with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
“The message was just a publicity stunt. There is no question of me resigning from the presidency of BCCI. I will launch a commercial educational application, which will be my own company,” he told a section of the media.
However, his Twitter post on Wednesday afternoon contained enough ingredients to spark speculation that he could end his cricketing innings and make his political debut.
“2022 marks the 30th year since my journey with cricket started in 1992. Since then, cricket has given me a lot. More importantly, it has given me the support of all of you. I want to thank everyone who was part of the journey, supported me and helped me to reach where I am today.
“Today I plan to start something that I think will probably help a lot of people. Hope you continue your support as I enter this chapter of my life,” Ganguly’s tweet read.
